Old custom never dies. . ..
One of many double windows. A daily customary chore would be to open both glass and wooden windows after dawn, fresh outside air circulation replaces indoor stuffy air. Later in the afternoon as the ambient temperature rises, simply switching air conditioner on and shut off the glass window: Thanks to modern amenities, the old Dutch Indische building could now offer cool breeze air within.
Looking through the glass window from outside, you could see a portion of room as the greenish front-yard gets reflected. Large trees originally planted by the Dutch in 1930s along Houtman plein hepls dissipating heat and traffic noise. ![]()
Within the yard itself there used to be fruit and many other plantation including spices. Spices which in the early 16th century attracted western colony, such as among others: clove /Eugenia aromatic
um or Eugenia caryophyllata.
Manggo tree….
Most of those plantation has been given up for the drive way!
